Today the book celebrates its 1st birthday! Many thanks to all who have shared their encouragement and support this past year.

Help yourself to a sneak preview

Last week millions watched two of Trump's apprentice wannabes hear those fateful words, "you're fired."

The episode introduced a new twist, judging the competitors on their ability to interview with trusted Trump advisors.

In case you missed the show, here's the link where you can get caught up.

What does this have to do with networking?

Trump was surprised when he heard back from his employees who they liked, with whom they wanted to work, who they felt were qualified and and who bugged them. He clearly didn't expect to give Amy or Nick the boot. In the end he deferred to his trusted team who influenced his decision.

We watched as the final four learned the difference between "decision maker" and "influencer" when they went into the board room.

Frequently I am asked, "how can I meet the decision makers?"

Lesson for networking ... While everyone else is trying to meet (or be seen with ) the "decision maker" I encourage you to connect with the "influencers." These people are trusted, have access, and are often more approachable.

Stay tuned!
