Be in Touch with the Press

Several years ago Effective Networking was catapulted to a new level when Joann Lublin from the Wall Street Journal wrote an article about our services.

Ever since then I have stayed in touch with her and periodically helped her find a source for an article.

In today's Wall Street Journal, there is an article by her that shows the results of staying in touch with the press and helping them be successful.

Switching from Being a Boss to an Underling is Actually a Hard Job

Steps to Being a "Networking Node" for the Press

1. Be in touch with them when you have something to say. In many cases their email is right there. Or even write a letter with a stamp!

2. Start positive - there are many reasons for us to disagree, however if you GENUINELY compliment them, you'll get farther.

3. Help them find sources. Journalists are BUSY. If you read a story and know someone who would be a good source, offer to make an introduction.

4. Be brief and be clear.

5. Follow up! If you say you are going to do something, do it.

Happy Networking! Best, Diane
