Lessons Learned from a 1st Time Author - Workshop
It's said that everyone has at least one book in them. Do you have a dream of writing a book? Wonder what's involved?
Writing a book is a great boost for your career. It provides credibility and visibility.
Perhaps you want to share family stories - especially the holiday ones.
No matter what you want to write, it's quite a project.
I'll share my learnings as a first time author. Here are a few things you'll learn:
Getting published:
*-Do you need to write the entire book before approaching a publisher or an outline? *-Questions to ask when hiring a literary agent? Do you really need one? *-Should you self publish or target a publishing house? *-What does a publisher look for? *-Questions to ask your editor at the beginning of the project. *-Why the first printing of my book IMMEDIATELY became a collector's item.
Writing:
*-Should you write it yourself or hire a ghost writer? *-Ways to stay on track when writing *-Techniques to get over writer's block
Legal:
*-Questions to ask before you hire an attorney *-Cost effective ways to protect your intellectual property *-Legal things you need to consider when writing the book
Money:
*-The economic aspect of writing a book *-Line items to include in your book writing budget *-What a publisher is looking to make
Promotion & marketing:
*-Marketing efforts you need to consider - press, TV, radio, book signings *-Hiring a PR firm *-How many books do you give away? How to choose who gets them.
